Hovorany

Title: Hovorany
Description: Hovorany is situated southwest of Kyjov in a very picturesque, undulated landscape covered with fields, vineyards and orchards. The village has 2, 232 inhabitants and is the centre of the Hovorany micro-region. The dominant religious structure of the village is The Church of John the Baptist **, also The Saviour’s Temple* has some importance. Out of the many interesting monuments of minor religious importance worth mentioning are the St. Rochus’ Chapel *. Other sights to be seen list the tomb of Jana Kleinová from the year 1850 (in the cemetery), the Resurrection, a cast-iron statue from the year 1863 (in the cemetery), a wooden carved cross from 1896 (in the village square), a secession Memorial of Fallen from 1920 (in the square). Scientifically interesting is the steppe-like locality called Hovoranské Meadows **. Hovorany is home to the brass band of Hovorané. The village festival is held every year on the first Sunday after Day of John the Baptist’s (usually the last Sunday in June). The folk costume that J. Klvaňa called “mutenicko-hovoransky” in 1890 has changed. At present, only a very few women over 70 wear it.
