Ivančice used to be an area of massive asparagus growing and local asparagus proved to be the best not only in
Austria, but in the whole Europe. This fact is annually commemorated by Asparagus Feast held in may and connected with
tasting of asparagus delicateses and extensive accompanying programme.
The Valtice Chateau complex serves as a seat of the National Wine Centre, a non-profit organisation that
runs the Wine Salon of the Czech Republic. The Wine Salon of the Czech Republic is the top wine contest in the Czech
Republic that frames the system of nomination exhibitions. The competition itself is followed by permanent public
degustation exposition of the top 100 wines placed in the cellar premises of the state-run chateau in Valtice.
The new wine exposition in the Regional Museum in Mikulov, with unusual art conception, summarises the history and
development of wine growing and wine making in our area in the context of European history. The atmosphere full of wine
and history is supported by sensitive lighting and composed period music.
Corn is the crop accompanying our region for long millenniums. To get to know the history of its processing, you can
go to Slup, close to Znojmo. A meeting of traditional folk craft and folk groups called “Bread feasts” is annually held
in front of the monument.
